ForestrySA manages forests in the Mount Lofty Ranges (MLR) and Green Triangle (GT) of South Australia for the South Australian Government. The corporation evolved out of the State’s Department of Woods and Forests and embodies the rich history of forestry in South Australia dating back to 1875.
ForestrySA’s sustainable forest management program involves the management of 10,500ha of plantation pine in the MLR, producing log which is converted into a range of structural and non-structural timber products, supporting a thriving local industry.
We also manage and protect more than 16,000ha of native forest for conservation purposes in both regions, supporting many rare and threatened species.
Our forests are widely used and valued by the community. Their proximity to Adelaide, just an hour’s drive from the city, makes them a popular place to explore, camp and play.
Fire is our single greatest risk, and we work in cooperation with the government agencies, other forest managers, and neighbours to manage the threat and response to bushfire.
ForestrySA is committed to responsible environmental management of plantation and native forests. Our Forest Management System is certified to the internationally recognised Australian Forestry Standard for Sustainable Forest Management (AS 4708), administered by Responsible Wood®.
